Jesus’ Parable: Why Doesn’t Everyone Understand?
Based on the Gospel reading for July 24, 2025, we are invited to reflect on why Jesus spoke in parables. Matthew 13:10–17 tells us that His disciples asked Him directly, and Jesus gave a profound answer: parables are not just ordinary stories, but God’s way of revealing the secrets of His Kingdom to those who are willing to open their hearts, not to everyone.
Jesus emphasized that only those with “spiritual eyes” and “hearing ears” will truly understand the truth. Many people see but do not see, hear but do not understand, because their hearts have become hardened—too hard to accept the truth.
However, those who truly seek God, who open themselves to His Word, are given understanding and spiritual abundance. Jesus even said that many prophets and righteous men of the past longed to see and hear what the disciples experienced—but they did not have the opportunity.
