Kongregasi C.Ss.R didirikan oleh St. Alfonsus Maria Yohanes Fransiskus Kosmas Damianus Michael Angelo Gaspara de Liguori pada tanggal 9 November 7132 di Scala, Italia Selatan. Nama Kongregasi diresmikan pada tanggal 9 Desember 1748. Kongregasi berpusat di Italia. Saat ini kongregasi C.Ss.R sudah tersebar di seluruh dunia (70 negara) dengan 41 Propinsi, 21 Vice Propinsi, 10 Kategori dan 7 daerah misi.
